With virus scanning enabled, all messages processed by the Barracuda Email Security Gateway are checked for viruses. Detected viruses will not be quarantined or delivered to the intended recipient - even if the message has been whitelisted by a Block/Accept filter.
For protection against advanced malware, zero-day exploits, and targeted attacks not detected by the Barracuda Email Security Gateway virus scanning features, use the subscription-based Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) service when you use the Cloud Protection Layer (CPL).
The ATP service analyzes inbound email attachments in a separate, secured cloud environment, detecting new threats and determining whether to block such messages. For more information on how ATP works, see Advanced Threat Protection.
Barracuda Real-Time Protection provides a way for each Barracuda Email Security Gateway to participate in a worldwide network that reports virus and spam propagation activity at early stages to Barracuda Central. This feature enables real-time comparison with spam and virus fingerprints and intent analysis found URIs that do not match those local to the Barracuda Email Security Gateway to real-time newly detected spam and virus outbreaks logged at Barracuda Central. It also enables you to elect to send new spam and virus variants to Barracuda Central for analysis if they have not yet been classified.
- When this feature is set to On - Send Virus Variants, attachments are scanned using a real-time database that helps detect virus outbreaks. Barracuda Central may request that a message containing a suspected virus be forwarded for analysis, and this setting will enable forwarding of the message to Barracuda Central.
- Setting this feature to On - Do Not Sent Virus Variants, messages will be scanned but will not be forwarded to Barracuda Central.
- Setting this feature to Off disables real-time spam fingerprinting.
